Президент Международной федерации футбола (ФИФА) Джанни Инфантино предложил проводить чемпионаты мира чаще. Об этом сообщает Daily Mail.

Глава ФИФА выразил мнение, что мундиаль может проходить каждые три, а не четыре года. В таком случае в промежутке будут проводиться клубный чемпионат мира и континентальные турниры. Отмечается, что изменения буду возможны только после первенства планеты-2030, так как международный футбольный календарь на период с 2024 по 2030 год уже практически сформирован.

В 2021 году Инфантино предлагал рассмотреть возможность проведения чемпионата мира каждые два года. Однако Союз футбольных европейских ассоциаций и многие футбольные лиги, в том числе российская, выступили против этой инициативы. В итоге от реализации идеи отказались.

В 2022 году чемпионат мира прошел в Катаре. Мундиаль впервые проводился зимой. Победителем турнира стала сборная Аргентины.
